Certification Description:
Because "Office Manager"
means so many different things and covers so many varied tasks, The Association
of Professional Office Managers is working to develop a formal
certification program for our members. The certifications are intended to provide
current and future employers with qualitative and quantitative measures of the
core skills and specialties of "Office Managers." APOM's goal is
to differentiate its members by defining levels of professionalism.
Core certifications include computer skills, personnel management and
leadership, and workplace safety. Additional certifications are intended to allow members to further
enhance their skills in contract negotiation and management,
budgeting and finance, and insurance.
APOM will be working with a certification program consultant to design a
program that fits the needs of our members. In addition, APOM intends to
work with universities to categorize and offer an office management curriculum.
Additionally, senior managers will be asked to contribute their thoughts with
regard to what they feel are
the important qualities in their office managers and to assure that
certifications maximize their impact for the careers of our members.
